SK-II Confetti
Brief
In the spring of 2019 Huge developed the next generation of smart store for SK-II. This time the focus was on robotics, eye tracking and motion tracking. The experience was to be deployed in downtown Tokyo and build excitement for SK-II’s brand in Japan.
My Role
With more and more experience with “phygital” projects I was able to take almost sole responsibility for the deployment of the stores digital and physical aspects. Though I gained experience working between the physical and the digital, working with eye-tracking and robotics was completely new to me.
Complication
As SK-II and Huge became more confident in these phygital experiences, they also started looking for opportunities to spend less money on them, and thus fewer people were sent to Tokyo to deploy the experience. With only three of us present in Tokyo we all had to do our absolute best and work holistically to make sure everything came together. We all had to learn programming robots, calibrating eye tracking and Kinect Motion Sensors.
Resolution
The SK-II confetti project might have been the most virally successful one because of the engaging moments the user could enjoy. People loved taking selfies together with Yumi the robot and were fascinated with the “magic mirror” that they could interact with by nothing but their eyes.
