Brief

In 2015 I joined King as an Agile Test Lead to help with the testing effort of their latest major game Blossom Blast Saga. The game was to be a successor to the insanely successful franchise Candy Crush Saga.

My Role

The Agile Test Lead role was an interesting mix between QA Lead, Agile Coach, SCRUM Master and Product Owner. I got to work with almost all disciplines at King, Level Designers, Developers, Project Managers, Community Managers and more. My experience from the AAA games industry became was invaluable and I was able to help the team avoid some of the biggest obstacles when working within huge organizations like DICE and KING are.

Complication

Blossom Blast Saga was to use Kings new and proprietary Defold engine and have a rolling release starting in smaller markets, making it’s way into bigger and bigger ones until it was global. Not only did we have to make plans to finish to core game, but also how to expand it in the future with monthly patches containing new kinds of obstacles and puzzles.

Resolution

The project was released in November 2015 to an excited audience. The 5 star reviews started rolling in and it felt safe to keep rolling the game out to more and more markets while at the same time releasing the monthly content patches. The game has a healthy user base to this day and still has a solid rating on the Android and iOS app stores.
